Simple Moments

Sometimes you run across the strangest moments in your day. Not that having my daughter calling me from the restroom is strange, but to see her in the bathroom…and then thinking what a beautiful picture that would make. The light was hitting her was very soft, and the oversized t-shirt was wrapped around her like a blanket.

When I was a child my favorite PJ’s were gathered by dipping into my mom’s T-shirts. As a teenager I was often playing dress-up in my mom’s closet, and or wearing the hat of my latest crush. As a wife, I like to wear my husband’s t-shirts. There is something about a guys t-shirt. Are they softer than mine? It’s so funny how a simple moment can mean so much. I see my daughter in the bathroom all the time, but this time was just different. The way the light was surrounding my daughter, it just made my mood change and I felt calm. Then seeing the softness of the T-shirt surrounding her, it made me think of how I must have looked every morning in the bathroom in my mom’s T-shirt. I had to quickly grab my camera and take the picture even though it was happening in the bathroom. Sometimes a “moment” is an important moment, no matter where it happens to be. I almost did not take the picture. I thought “no, don’t take this picture, it’s in the bathroom and it should be private. But then I thought…this moment is just bigger than the location. Click!

To My Daughter on Mother’s Day

This year on Mother’s Day I wanted the day off. I am so lucky to be home with you all week, but I felt I wanted this one day to relax and spend it on me. Mother’s Day morning you were not feeling good, so I decided I would go to church by myself. I was thankful for the brief time away, and quiet ride to church, deep in thought and listening to music. When I got to church and headed to my normal seat, I saw a mom and her daughter sitting in front of me. The mom was holding her daughter, and the daughter hugging her mom back. At that moment I really wished you were there with me, us raising our hands to God and singing praise together. In life I need some me time, but I always want to experience it with you no matter what the day is. I know someday I will wish you called more, and I will just want you to give me a hug. So today, on Mother’s Day, I learned once again what a blessing you are in my life. I love you.

Love,

Mom

Debbie and Steve

Debbie and Steve took part of my Valentine’s Day Special. They used the session as a mini-engagement session, because this summer they are having a destination wedding. These two love birds are like high schools kids. The love radiating from the two of them is infectious. I only had to tell these two to kiss once, and after that they were lost in their own world. The smiles and laughter that carried through their whole session was so much fun! I met with them afterwards to show them their proofs, and take their order. They had originally planned on having family and friends take the pictures at their wedding, but after seeing their engagement session pictures they asked if I would be willing to photograph their wedding. Of course I will! Their comments to me were how lots of people tell them how happy and in love they look in the pictures. Even though they both felt that in their hearts, it was not until they saw their engagement pictures that they saw it for themselves. I have also had this feeling with my own personal pictures…It is a tangible way for me to recall a moment an emotion in my life that will never happen again. I’m so excited for Debbie and Steve’s wedding!

Evolution of a Photographer

Hooray, my new website and blog are finally live! Well actually, it went live about about week ago, but I’ve been tweaking it to get it just right. What do you think? Do you like the new appearance? Functionality and usability? Send me an email and let me know your thoughts! For those of you that were used to visiting the old site regularly, this is quite a change, but I think the color scheme, pattern, and overall look and feel give it a much more classic and timeless look. Oh, and while I’m here, check out this sneak peek from a recent photoshoot I did in Las Vegas…

Farewell To A Friend – Guest Post

The harsh reality of life is that sometimes you have to say goodbye to your good friends. The coolest dog I have ever known, Niko, passed away peacefully today. Niko was actually my neighbor’s dog, but he was a frequent visitor of our home. He had the calmest temperament of any dog I have ever seen, and yet was tremendously protective of his family and friends. This dog was so loving of people, whenever you were near he would always lean against you, not caring if his white hair ended up all over your black pants. Somehow, I never minded though. Niko would always run towards me when I came home, wanting nothing more than to say hello. Niko, I miss you already…tremendously. I’ll see you on the other side pal.
